WHY THIS EFFORT?

The Endocrine Disruptor Risk Assessment Link Library is intended as a central source to track some of the thousands of peer-reviewed studies on endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs). The initial listing will be heavily weighted toward Bisphenol A (BPA) because that is where the most peer-reviewed research can be found (for now).

The Stealth Syndromes Project founders have been sharing large numbers of studies with each other via Dropbox. It occurred to us that we should share the information we have found and try to serve as a public resource.

This is no small task since a search of Gooogle Scholar on 10/19/14 shows 126,000 studies (excluding citations and patents). Searching for recent studies (2010 to present) shows 18,300.

Because of this, we have started with the most recent of studies and will be adding many more as time goes on.

In addition, endocrine disruptor skeptics most frequent argue that no evidence exists to show that hormone disruptors such as BPA actually cause damage. This page will post links to relevant, credible, fact-based evidence that dispute naysayer claims.

See Chemical Industry Myths That Can Kill You (multiple posts, right-hand column) for a specific analysis of many naysayer claims.

PEER-REVIEWED, PUBLISHED STUDIES ONLY

This section (and others which will follow) will contain ONLY peer-reviewed, published research. While some of those studies are poorly done  (Flawed FDA BPA Study Should Be Retracted) or deliberately biased (Covertly Stretching Peer Review Until It Breaks, this sort of study offers the best assessment available in science.

Any study where the investigators or the financial, commercial, or political funders have a vested interest in particular scientific conclusions will not be included.

This feature, as well as many of the posts here at StealthEpidemic.Com, are dominated by BPA because that ubiquitous chemical has attracted the most research, attention and controversy. BPA has also driven the new science of low-level, non-monotonic dose-response evaluations.

RECENT STUDIES EMPHASIZED

There are thousands upon thousands of BPA studies to filter thr0ugh. Because the science involved is evolving and advancing, we will emphasize the results of more recent studies over older ones. We will do our best to categorize the study links in the appropriate risk category (cancer, diabetes etc).

GRADUAL EXPANSION INTO OTHER ENDOCRINE DISRUPTORS

We will gradually expand the link libraries to include more EDCs such as phthalates and less-tongue-twisting chemicals like perchlorates (PERCs), and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

DUPLICATES INEVITABLE

Duplicates will be inevitable, for two reasons:

Some studies may deal with more than one risk.

Until we implement our own database system, we are including studies by hand from multiple sources. Duplicates will result because we want to make sure we don’t leave out studies.

Please let us know if you find a duplicate or suggest a study that should be included. Just click: Send Email Regarding BPA Risk Assessment Links.

NOTE FOR NON-SCIENTIST VISITORS: Most of these links go to an abstract and not the full article because the articles themselves cost $25 to $50 each without the usually over-priced annual subscriptions. While we have access to the full articles through our university affiliations, we cannot legally post the full study because it would violate copyright law.
